You may get stuck on the computer fan noise problem due to the high CPU usage on your Dell XPS 15, HP Pavilion G6, Lenovo Yoga 910 or other brand PCs. After the operating system is updated to the latest version, like the Windows 10 Creator Update or the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, some users also hear a loud whirring noise from the cooling fan. The high CPU usage and the overheating computer affect the continuity of their office work.
The noisy laptop fan or desktop fan often indicates something wrong with the computer. Many factors can result in the loud fan noise, such as the hardware device, the incorrect Windows 10 configuration, the recent Windows updates, the driver issues, etc.
Today, let’s have a close look at how to troubleshoot the noisy computer fan caused by High CPU usage on your Windows 10 OS.
Top 5 Ways to Fix Windows Computer Fan Noise Caused by High CPU Usage
To prevent your Windows 10 desktop or laptop from high CPU usage or 100% disk usage, here we’ve had top 5 ways for you to silence your desktop or laptop fan due to the High CPU usage.
Way 1. Clean the CPU Fan to Solve the Fan Noise Problem on Windows 10
A CPU fan is a PC cooling component found in the Central Processing Unit. If the CPU fan goes wrong, it won’t offer temperature protection properly by cooling down the system and prevent its parts from being damaged due to overheating. If your Windows 10 suffers the high CPU usage and gets overheating during your computing, it is better to check the CPU fan firstly.
The noise is usually caused by dust accumulated on or in the fans, like the CPU fan, GPU fan or power supply fan. Thus the Task Manager detects a high CPU usage on Windows 10. To check and clean the CPU fan, you need to do the following:
1. Shut down the computer and cut off the power supply.
2. Remove the case panel of the computer.
3. Locate the CPU fan as well as other fans.
4. Use a brush or a cotton swab to gently sweep the dust away from the fan blade. You can also use a can of compressed air to clean all of the dust in the case.
5. Re-oil the fan by dripping the oil into the hole in the center.
6. Check the connectors and re-plug them right to the ports.
Note: If your computer has been working for many years, the CPU fan may be too old to run on the PC. You may like replace it with a new one.
After the cleaning, turn on the PC to see if the noisy hardware issue or the high CPU usage still persists. If so, you need to continue the reading and do some other modifications on Windows 10.

You can’t focus on anything you’re working on with a noisy laptop fan. The culprit for a noisy laptop fan can be one of the two usually – dust and overheating. If you’ve been using your laptop fan for years now, you would probably wonder why there’s a humming sound that is a far cry from white noise. It isn’t helping you concentrate – you’re getting distracted, and that has to stop.
Now, to get to the bottom of things, you have to determine why your laptop fan is noisier than usual. The cooling fan running at a fast and the non-stop rate could be blamed for this. It’s firing up or working harder than usual – churning like a wildcat – when it needs to get rid of heat or when it’s under the extreme workload. Even though your laptop is compact, it still is prone to accumulation of dust. The clogged dust can wreak havoc on your laptop’s system which causes it to run hot and noisy. The challenge here then is how to cool down your laptop and zap the irritating noise.
If your Laptop fan is making weird grinding, buzzing or rattling noise when switched on, here are some ways to fix the noise and overheating Laptop fan issues.
Overheating Noisy Laptop Fan
1] Check the running processes: When your laptop is noisy, it could mean only one thing – it’s overworked. Check on your processes and see if there are running applications or programs that are CPU-intensive or require your CPU to grind harder than usual. Check if there are processes that are close to running at 100 because it could be the culprit. If everything looks good, then it could be the CPU fan itself which needs further checking.

2] Close the processes: Open your Task Manager and kill all running processes to stop your CPU fan from buzzing or whirring up in the effort to keep up with the demands of running programs like when you’re playing games or watching videos online.
3] Use a laptop cooler: Your laptop can only take so much heat before it goes bonkers. Using a laptop cooler is advised for those who use their laptop for gaming or work which means the laptop could be working hard for an extended period. You can choose between laptop coolers that have cooling baseplates and those that are clipped on the laptop to directly zap or suck out the hot air. These Laptop cooling software may interest you.
4] Clean your laptop fan: If all else fails, go right at the root of the problem. You can hire a professional to do the cleanup for you, or you can do this yourself. Dust and even hair could pile up and get clogged into your laptop fan which could reduce airflow. Cleaning it up would most likely solve your problem.
You need an air compressor and a small screwdriver to do this. Make sure that you take out the battery before you start cleaning to avoid static electricity. You should unplug the AC adapter as well. Unscrew the access panel to see the laptop fan. Blow out the dust using the air compressor. Make sure to do this outside of your home to avoid asthma or allergic reactions to dust.
Once you’re done, put everything back together and power up the system – you should have a quieter laptop now.

I'm afraid I don't know quite what you mean. Audio isn't really my specialty, I'm afraid.
My front ports are just normal Mic and Headphones. That was simple enough, mic plug goes in the mic jack, headphones to the headphones jack. The rear panel has either 6 or 8 plugs, of which two were the traditional green and red plugs for headphones and microphone, so I used those. My Realtek software confirmed those were the correct ports, but if you think it would work better in another port (and not completely destroy my headset or audio card. =P), I'm willing to give it a shot.
The audio-out is just fine, by the way. No problems in volume or quality for music or games or anything, and I only run the speaker volume at about 45%.
I'm currently testing the microphone on my netbook, which unfortunately also uses Realtek audio (though it has a different version of the software). I can't find mic boost on my netbook anywhere but in Playback, under microphone. Which is really strange. As a recording device, it doesn't have that option. Though on max volume without mic boost, it's still a bit louder than on my Windows 7 machine with full volume and full mic boost. Not to mention I have my system audio out on my netbook way, way down (less than 10%) because otherwise it blows out my eardrums.
